Yamaha CPX series Guitars – Handcrafted to the Highest Standards

Yamaha’s CPX Compass Series Guitars have inspired and delighted a legion of Guitarists since they were first released in 1999. Yamaha are not known to rest on their laurels and the CPX series has undergone periodical revamps over the years. The CPX700II ensures that the standard is kept high.

With an delightfully comfortable Mini-jumbo body, the CPX700 II delivers a powerfully rich bass with smooth, delicate highs and a sweet mid-range for an open, modern voice. Non-scalloped X-type bracing ensures a powerful yet controlled tone that allows the guitar to deliver strong, rich acoustic sounds while still remaining clear and usable on-stage.

Yamaha ART System 56 State-of-the-Art Pickup and Active Preamp

The Yamaha CPX700II features the new ART System 56 and replaces the 9V battery of the previous model with two 1.5V AAs. Yamaha have boosted the batteries’ voltage to 11 Volts to give the new ART system 56 a wider dynamic range, more stable operation and reduced distortion, even when the batteries are running low. In short, you get better tone for longer…no bad thing at all. A welcome benefit is that rechargeables can be used – as long as they’re alkaline – so you won’t need to keep buying batteries.

The ART preamp features a three-band equaliser which has been calibrated for optimum sonic purity and balance.  Featuring a wide-range mid contour control, it offers tremendous control over the mid frequencies and helps to tame feedback. The ART System 56 features a pickup system consisting of two pickups mounted underneath the saddle. The system is also equipped with an onboard tuner for optimum usability.

Yamaha Compass Series – Built to Please

YamahaCPX700II-head-scmusic

The Yamaha CPX700 II features a translucent headstock and truss rod access via the soundhole and a hand inlaid abalone rosette. There is a great advantage in having the truss rod adjustment from the soundhole – the neck/headstock join is generally considered the weakest part of a guitar. Further routing of this narrow section to provide access to the truss rod can further compromise this fragile area.

The Yamaha CPX700II cutaway mini-jumbo features a bookmatched solid Spruce Top and Nato (Mahogany) Back, Sides and Neck with a full Gloss finish that simply looks all class. The cream-bound body carries a simple abalone-inlaid rosette and discreet clear scratchplate.

The quality Rosewood fingerboard has body-matching binding, this time continuing around the headstock, which bears the series-identifying Compass motif. The neck profile begins at just over 20mm then gently deepens further up to a comfortable ‘C’ profile. The satin finish makes it delightfully slinky in your hand.

Yamaha Compass series Guitars – attention to detail

Thanks to an excellent southcoastmusic set-up, the grip is enjoyably slick, while string spacings are the typical Yamaha dimensions of 43mm at the nut and 53mm across the saddle.

Tonally, the CPX700 II delivers it’s precisely balanced timbre and sustaining, resonant follow-through with aplomb. The CPX700II shouldn’t disappoint.

Plugged-in, the ART System 56 delivers well-balanced output across the strings and the flexible preamp allows you to fine tune and optimise your amplified tone.

Who plays Yamaha Acoustic Guitars?

So, who plays Yamaha Acoustic Guitars you may well ask? Get ready for a few surprises. The most expensive Yamaha Acoustic Guitar ever built was created after a request from John Lennon. John Lennon became interested in Yamaha acoustics after playing a custom acoustic which had been built for Paul Simon. The celebrated American singer-songwriter is a longtime fan of Yamaha acoustics, which the company custom-makes for him with slightly smaller bodies to fit the artist’s compact frame. But Simon was hardly alone.

Yamaha acoustics became high visibility items during the Seventies. John Denver, James Taylor and David Lindley played them. Bruce Springsteen relied heavily on a Yamaha Acoustic Guitar during the fertile Eighties phase of his career and Yamaha Acoustic Guitars  also featured on the Stage at Woodstock.

Jimmy Page played Yamaha acoustics during Led Zeppelin’s 1975 world tour and would later make Yamaha his acoustics of choice for the Page/Plant Unleaded tour in the Nineties. Whenever Jimmy flies around the World his baggage usually includes a Yamaha Acoustic Guitar

These are names that should be immediately famliar to you…a quick scan of Youtube or Foxtel will reveal the contemporary players that play Yamaha Acoustic Guitars.
