The Aria MM-10 Gypsy Jazz Guitar is a remarkable guitar. A thing of rare beauty, the MM-10 is handcrafted by Aria, one of the oldest and most respected Guitar building companies in the world. Modeled after the original French 1930s Selmer Maccaferri guitar used by the Gypsy Jazz legend, Django Reinhardt, the MM-10 is great value and also surprisingly affordable.
The MM-10 features a solid Spruce top with the Maccaferri’s signature “D” shaped soundhole and the back and sides are laminated Rosewood while the neck is mahogany. The original Selmer Maccaferri guitar was built to be used in a live performance situation and the MM-10 has a surprising amount of volume and a rather pleasing tone.
Typical of a guitar in this price range – straight out of the box some setup work is needed for this instrument to live up to its potential. That’s where our PRO-SCM setup comes into play.
We dress, hand roll the ends and polish the frets until they gleam! We also oil and condition the Rosewood fretboard to bring out the beauty of the wood and prevent splitting. The Nut and Zero fret are also attended to ensuring easy chording at the first position. The Bridge/Saddle is then adjusted to the correct playing height and positioned for the best intonation. Finally, the tuners are checked, lubricated and screws tightened.
The difference this makes is substantial and before you rush out to buy a cheaper one elsewhere you may want to consider the cost and benefits of a similar setup.
