VOX first launched their electric guitar range back in the early 1960’s These were heady days as the Brit’ Pop explosion captivated the hearts and minds of teenagers the world over. VOX already had a well earned reputation for their British made amplifiers. Guitar production began in England but by 1962 had moved to Italy where the iconic Bobcat and Lynx models were produced.
The Bobcat and Lynx featured unusual pickup configurations and a distinctive look, which VOX have revived in the new Bobcat V90 and S66. As befitting their revival, the historic design of these guitars is unchanged, but brought up to date with modern playability, controlling acoustic feedback and raising the performance of the pickups.
The Bobcat V90 is a semi-hollow body guitar that features soapbar pickups. It has a vintage-inspired design that mostly stays true to the original Italian-made Lynx guitar, with subtle yet modern improvements.
True to Form
The pickguard and pickup are based on the design of the original VOX Bobcat and use plastic of the same hue. The knobs are also made of aluminium as used on the original guitars. The headstock logo reproduces the vertical orientation of the original, projecting the same retro/vintage feel as the original models of the 1960s.
Improved playability
VOX have employed a set neck method for the neck joint, makes it easier to play even on the higher frets. The fixed and fully adjustable Tune-o-matic bridge allows the optimal neck angle for easy playing, significantly improving the playability when compared to the original.
Semi-hollow structure that suppresses acoustic feedback even during high-volume performance
A weight-relieved centre block within the semi-hollow body increases sustain while being resistant to feedback even at high volume levels.
Modern pickups with a Retro appearance
The pickups in the Bobcat are modelled after the original Italian-made pickups with improvements in the voicing. The Bobcat V90 is equipped with soapbar pickups. These use Strat-type pole magnets, and delivers a bright and punchy sound that is generally absent on previous semi-hollow guitars.
Open Gear Tuners made by Grover
The vintage style machine heads are an open-gear type. Made by Grover, they are smooth, accurate and lightweight, effectively transmitting the vibration of the strings.
Pro-SCM Setup
This VOX Bobcat is a fabulous guitar and the tone woods used are first class.
Tone woods/Timber comes from trees and with the changes in weather conditions, humidity etc, these timbers often try to be trees again.
Necks can move, fretboards can shrink ever-so-slightly exposing sharp fret ends, etc, etc.
It is also impossible at the factory level to second guess the exact requirements of how a player likes their instrument to be setup.
We repair, restore and setup a lot of instruments.
