SUNRISE TEA BURST LACQUER FINISH – BRAND NEW and UNPLAYED!

The most desirable guitar ever made celebrates its 60th Anniversary.

Gibson Custom Shop is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, quality and sound excellence and for many, the holy grail.

Each instrument is a painstaking tribute to Gibson’s legacy through accuracy, authenticity and attention to detail.

  • Gibson has revoiced the guitar’s controls for an authentic time capsule experience of tone
  • The pots are 500K CTS audio-taper units and the capacitors are paper-and-oil bumblebees
  • Gibson Custom 60th anniversary 1959 features a vintage-style long neck tenon
  • Gibson’s alnico III Custombuckers are unpotted for a more authentic PAF-style sound
  • The metal parts are aged for a suitably vintage look
  • The screw that holds the pickguard onto the bracket is a slot-head
  • Darker aniline dye on the back and sides even out the contrast between the mahogany and the maple sliver in the cutaway
  • The trapezoid inlays are aged cellulose nitrate
  • Thin binding and tortoiseshell position markers are typical of 1950s Les Paul Standards
  • Tinted clear coats over the mother of pearl Gibson logo result in a greenish-gold hue
  • Gibson Custom 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard nut is nylon
  • Stepped truss-rod cover is uber-authentic
  • Gibson Custom 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard single-line, single-ring Klusons tuners
  • Butyrate top-hat knobs were originally recreated for 2015’s True Historic range
  • Sunrise Teaburst finish specially recreated for authentic vintage patina

While every Gibson Custom Shop guitar is special, no specific Gibson model carries more intrigue and gravitas than the 1959 Les Paul Standard. It’s ironic that while it became the most iconic guitar in history, it wasn’t a successful model when it was released. In fact it was a bit of a flop with less than 650 made. The Les Paul was so out of favour that Gibson dropped it in 1961, replacing it with the SG.

Maybe because they weren’t considered fashionable or were simply cheap to buy back in the day, for whatever the reason the Les Paul Standard and it’s powerful PAF humbucking pickups was becoming the guitar of choice for a small wave of British guitarists inspired by the American Blues…Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and more.

Before long the Les Paul was beginning to find favour with up and coming US guitarists that included Duane Allman, Mike Bloomfield, Billy Gibbons and Joe Perry to name a few. Focused on their new Guitar Heroes, the demand for Les Pauls went through the roof and Gibson were driven to reintroduce the model in 1968.

The 1959 Les Paul Standard was always the most desirable model – simply enchanting, from its beautiful figured maple top to its extreme sonic versatility. “It has a deep, powerful sound and you can use it to imitate just about anything – violin, sax, cello, even a sitar,” said Jeff Beck of his Oxblood Les Paul.

All these reasons and more made the 1959 Les Paul Standard the most coveted and legendary guitar on the planet, shaping sounds across music genres and generations of players.

Gibson Custom Shop’s 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard is not just a tribute to those priceless original models — it’s a clone!

From dimensions scanned with laser accuracy to chemically-recreated plastics and colour-matched shades of sunburst, every element has been rendered in unbelievable detail. This guitar represents the culmination of decades of work by Custom Shop’s expert team – a tireless quest to bring accuracy and authenticity to the hands of fans.

The 1959 Les Paul Standard has always been the epitome of “Cool” and with this stunning re-creation Gibson have redefined the notion of “Cool”. This guitar is hands down, the best representation of the 1959 Les Paul Standard since the Gibson Custom Shop began making Historic Reissues more than twenty-five years ago.

If you ever wanted to own a piece of history and a future classic – this could be the time . . . if you’re quick enough.
