The Vintage Modified range has given Fender the opportunity to take iconic guitars from their illustrious history and, under the Squier banner, add modern twists and touches for improved playability – all at a low and affordable price point.
Nobody did more to popularise the fretless electric bass than the legendary Jazz fusion artist Jaco Pastorius. Before his tragic death, Jaco single handedly took the fretless concept and made it his own. In the process, he elevated the electric bass guitar from simply being half of the rhythm section to become an expressive and lyrical instrument in its own right – while still holding down the groove.
This bass retains all the vintage aesthetics and vibe of the original bass he customised, right down to the stripped down look minus the pickguard.
The Vintage Modified Jazz Bass fretless is equipped with the familiar Fender Jazz Bass profile slim tapered maple neck. The fingerboard is carved from Ebonol and features white position “fret” markers to help with actually playing the right notes. To play in tune on a fretless bass, you have to put your finger on exactly the position where the frets would be on a normal bass. The white fret markers make this a breeze.
Ebonol is a material that is harder than Ebony which makes it perfect for the fretless fingerboard, especially if you are using round wound strings. The slick fretless Ebonol playing surface will inspire you to reach out into new musical territory and carve out new sonic paths.
Designed to satisfy modern players and vintage buffs alike, this Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass also incorporates high-output Fender Designed Single-Coil Jazz Bass pickups. The Chrome Vintage-Style hardware includes an adjustable 4-Saddle bridge and open-gear tuners.
This Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass is straight out of our vault – brand new and unplayed. It was a limited edition model and is no longer available. This is an awesome Bass – it sounds and plays way above its pay grade!
