The Fender Mustang was first introduced in August 1964 and became the go-to guitar in Fender’s range for beginners and students alike. With the passage of time the mighty Mustang found its way into the hands of players such as Adrian Belew (Frank Zappa, King Crimson, the Bears), Frank Black (Pixies), Bilinda Butcher (My Bloody Valentine), David Byrne (Talking Heads), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Graham Coxon and Damon Albarn (Blur) to name but a few.

The Mustang was produced until 1982, when it became the last Fender floating-bridge instrument to be discontinued. It would, in 1990, become the first to be reissued, and soon became a cult favorite among grunge and alternative guitarists who appreciated its low price and quirky offset look.

There have been several Fender Mustang reissues but finally, Squier® welcomes its first-ever Mustang® guitar to the family in the sleekly diminutive form of the Vintage Modified Mustang. With its distinctive 24” scale, dual pickup switches and floating bridge with dynamic vibrato tailpiece, it’s a classic modded with present-day touches including full-sounding Duncan Designed™ pickups and a 9.5” Fingerboard radius.

Features include a maple neck with vintage-tint gloss finish, rosewood Fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and parchment dot inlays, Mustang single-coil pickups with black covers, on/off-phase (in/out) slider switch for each pickup, master black skirted volume and tone knobs and white pearloid pickguard, floating bridge with dynamic vibrato tailpiece and vintage-style tremolo arm, and vintage-style white-tipped tuners.
