This pre-loved Deering Goodtime G-T 17-Fret Tenor Banjo has undergone a complete Pro-SCM setup in our workshop. Our technician has stripped it, dressed, crowned, hand rolled the ends and polished the frets. The tuners have been serviced and all nickel plated surfaces have been polished. The Mylar head has been tuned and tensioned.

Everything has then been reassembled, the banjo restrung and setup, the nut deburred and slots recut. The result is an instrument that plays better then it did when it left the factory. The level of precision required to complete a setup like this at the factory level is simply too expensive. The Kavanjo Humbucking pickup is an added bonus.

The current RRP for this model with the KV pickup is $1899 . . . at this price, its a bargain. All in all, this has to be the best value-for-money 17 Fret Deering G-T17F-KV Open Back Goodtime Banjo on offer today – anywhere, and its ready for a great time!

About the  Deering Goodtime G-T17F-KV

Deering makes some of the world’s finest banjos and the Goodtime 17-Fret Open Back Tenor Banjo is a great example. A versatile 4 string banjo with a smaller 21″ scale length. Traditionally tuned in 5ths, standard tuning is C,G,D,A Standard tuning is GDAE – the same as the Mandolin and Violin making it a great crossover instrument for those players. Two other popular tunings are Irish tuning, G,D,A,E and Chicago tuning where the top 4 strings are tuned like that of a guitar – D,G,B,E. Traditionally used for Celtic, Irish & Folk music, 4 string Tenor Banjos are finding their way into a variety of other musical styles.

Made in America at the Deering Banjo factory in California, the Goodtime openback banjo weighs about 4 pounds so it is ideal for traveling, camping, hiking, taking to the beach and provides a vibrant singing banjo tone in any situation.

The Kavanjo Banjo Pickup System is a magnetic humbucking pickup and jack suspended from a customised mylar head. This is the newest and we believe the most effective way to amplify ANY banjo, while maintaining the instruments authentic characteristics.

“The banjo is a fairly loud instrument acoustically but very difficult to amplify. Through a mic the banjo often sounds harsh and thin. Most banjo pickups over emphasize the treble tone of the instrument and miss the tonal depth. The Kavanjo pickup gets it just right….your banjo only louder! When I am playing a concert with Doc Watson we often play for 2000 people, sometimes and many as 250,000. A mic just won’t deliver the full tonal range of the banjo when it is cranked for giant audiences. Even in these extreme situations the Kavanjo performs perfectly. It allows me to keep the banjo in the mix even when Doc is plugged in and at high volume. Thank goodness there is finally a great pickup that amplifies the tonal warmth and power of the banjo!″ – David Holt

As one customer put it “Really great instrument with a great build quality and a lovely loud and rich tone. It is a delight to play with its short scale fretboard, slim neck and light weight body. I chose the Irish G,D,A,E tuning so that I can use the chords and tunes already learnt on the mandolin and am able to play it with just a little more of a stretch and a bit more movement of the old fingers!  I’m well impressed and can strongly recommend one of these lovely American banjos”.

Light enough to easily hold and play, the  Deering Goodtime G-T17F-KV is the perfect banjo to start out with as the shorter 17 fret neck reduces the length of the entire banjo to just 81cm / 32 inches end to end.
