The 500/1 Violin Bass was first shown to the public at the Frankfurt Musikmesse in 1956. Designed by Walter Höfner as an alternative to the upright double bass, it fulfilled this aim and much more. It leapt to worldwide fame when Paul McCartney was seen playing one with The Beatles in the early 1960s and has since gone on to become one of the most recognisable electric bass guitars on the planet. The hand made German models are highly sought after by players and collectors alike.

The Hofner 500/1 ‘Cavern’ Violin Bass takes it’s name from the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. Opened in 1957 the Cavern Club became the launch pad for countless bands and musicians in the British Beatboom era. In 1960 the first beat night session was held at the Cavern Club featuring Rory Storm and the Hurricanes with Ringo Starr on drums. By mid 1961 the Merseybeat scene was in full swing, led by the Beatles including Paul McCartney and his Hofner Violin Bass.

This Limited Edition hand made Violin Bass Guitar is a superb reproduction of the original 1961 model originally purchased by Paul McCartney in Hamburg. It is brand new, unplayed and in pristine condition.
