Inspired by the historic “Rex” line of instruments offered by mail-order catalog in the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s, this Jim Dandy™ model Parlor size guitar embodies the charm and spirit of those early Gretsch® flat-top guitars with best-in-class tone and the superb playability (thanks to our Pro-SCM setup) that their namesake suggests.

Featuring a petite and portable parlor body shape and a short 24″ scale length, the Jim Dandy™ Deltoluxe™ Parlor punches above its weight with a distinct tonal clarity and throaty midrange for which parlor guitars are so beloved.
The Jim Dandy whisks you back to the halcyon days when the earliest Gretsch guitars fuelled many a barrelhouse barn burner. With it’s compact dimensions, the Jim Dandy Parlor guitar is also the perfect instrument for those with small hands.

The vintage look is all class and this finely crafted guitar features an X-braced Sapele body with a powerfully resonant voice.

The “C”-profile Nato neck joins the body at the 12th fret and features a smooth walnut fingerboard with 18 vintage-style frets and oversized dot inlays. There is also a top-load Walnut bridge with a compensated synthetic Bone saddle for even intonation all along the neck and more. And coolest of the cool, the Gretsch Deltoluxe acoustic magnetic soundhole pickup reproduces a crisp yet throaty voice.

Tone-wise, the Jim Dandy has a hearty voice when played acoustically however, plug it into an amplifier and the Gretsch Deltoluxe Soundhole Pickup will take you to another place altogether. The Deltoluxe pickup is the Dandy’s secret tone weapon – a fabulous, no-nonsense magnetic soundhole pickup inspired by vintage DeArmond pickups that can transform the guitar from a sweet strummer to a blues monster in an instant.

Period-correct details such as a vintage-style pinned bridge, “G”-graphic pickguard, painted pinstripe purfling, 3-on-a-plate open-gear tuning machines and the oversized dot fingerboard inlays combine to create a thoroughly modern guitar with a nostalgic soul.

Well suited for everything from bluesy porch picking to speakeasy swinging, the Gretsch Jim Dandy Deltoluxe Parlor is a rambling companion for newbies and old-timers alike.

Our Pro-SCM Setup

It’s a well-known fact that Gretsch make great guitars.
Timber is used for the most part for the construction of these fine instruments.
Timber comes from trees and with the changes in weather conditions, humidity etc, these timbers often try to be trees again.
Necks can move, fretboards can shrink ever-so-slightly exposing sharp fret ends, etc, etc.
It is also impossible at the factory level to second guess the exact requirements of how a player likes their instrument to be setup, so they are setup within a defined tolerance – a sort of “one size fits all”.
We setup a lot of instruments. Read our reviews, we have a legion of satisfied customers and with good reason.

For example, this guitar will be setup for you before it leaves our shop. We are happy to discuss your preferences and work towards providing that. If you are a beginner, we will guide you and ensure that this instrument is as easy to play as it possibly can be.

Our Pro-SCM setup includes:

• Check that the action meets factory or your specifications
• Check and rectify any buzzing, intonation or playability issues
• Check and adjust the nut and bridge string heights
• Hand roll the fret ends to debur the sharp edges and polish the frets
• Test electronics, pots and switches for correct function
• Inspect instrument construction and condition of the strings
• Tune to pitch

As a paid service this setup can easily cost $250 or more – it’s included in our price…now, that’s real value!
