Maton Acoustic Electric Guitar Birregurra Creek Custom Shop No. 19 Hand made by world renowned Maton Master Luthier, Andy Allan, Birregurra Creek is a very special guitar. Made entirely from Native Australian timbers, this is an exquisitely crafted, beautiful guitar. The Maton Birregurra Creek was one of the guitars featured in the limited edition Blackwood bound Maton Custom Shop Book that showcased the world class craft of Maton’s former master luthier, Andy Allen. Completed in May, 2005, the Maton Birregurra Creek was the 19th guitar built by Andy. This guitar includes the “double A” Andy Allen logo associated with Maton Custom Shop Guitars The Maton Birregurra Creek Custom Shop guitar draws it’s inspiration from the small town of Birregurra. Nestled in the foothills of the Ottway Ranges, its creek flows into the Barwon River. The heavily wooded forests are the source of the exquisite Satinbox and Blackwood Tonewood Timbers used in the construction of this guitar. The soundboard is made from Bunya, native to Southern Queensland and used by Maton since the early 1950’s. The soundboard for this guitar was hand picked by Andy Allen. Once he was happy with it’s structural integrity and visual appearance, the top was “voiced” by ‘tap testing’ and flexing to ensure that it provided the necessary strength and weight to deliver the highly prized tone that Maton Custom Shop guitars have become renowned for. Sourced from the dense forests in Victoria’s Ottway Ranges, the back and sides have been crafted from highly figured ‘Fiddleback’ Blackwood. Australian Mulga is the timber of choice for the fingerboard and bridge. This tight grained Acacia, once common in the Australian Outback has become rarer and, other than old stocks, is now seldom seen. The proud Australiana theme continues with the Soundhole Rosette that features beautifully intricate inlaid hand selected pieces of Satinbox – also native to the Ottways alongside Victorian Blackwood. The acoustic tone of this guitar is simply superb. Full, focused, harmonically rich and beautifully balanced. It doesn’t get much better than this. Maton’s celebrated AP5 pickup system faithfully translates that tone for live sound or recording duties. The tuners are top shelf Gold Grover Rotomatics. A fitted Maton case made in the UK by Hiscox offers exemplary protection. Finally, this beautiful guitar has undergone a thorough check over and Pro-SCM setup to ensure a playing experience to match it’s tone and gorgeous aesthetic. It is virtually unplayed. This guitar was sold by us when new. Unfortunately, and not long after buying it, chronic arthritis meant that its owner was unable to play his dream guitar. Eventually, he consulted us and after much soul searching, decided that a guitar of this calibre deserved to be in the hands of someone who can play and enjoy all that it offers which is why it is now back at South Coast Music – and consigned for sale. The Birregurra Creek comes complete with all of it’s original case candy including the limited edition Blackwood bound Custom shop book in which this stunning guitar features. The system combines a custom version of our award winning Element pickup, a sound hole mounted volume control and a miniature endpin preamp powered by a 3V battery. We radically miniaturized our design so that the complete system weighs less than a 9V battery and tucks away neatly inside of the small instrument for a non-invasive installation.” L.R.
