SPLIT E MECHANISM
The Split E mechanism is an automatic mechanism – that is the player doesn’t need to alter fingerings. It holds down the lower G key when fingering third octave E. It improves the venting for this note and therefore, makes it easier for most players. It is usually recommended for beginner flautists to have this feature and Fontaine have included it on several of their models including the FBW107.
The split E mechanism can dramatically improve the response of high E. This mechanism divides the action of the upper and lower G keys, permitting the lower G key to close when high E is played. Closing the lower G key and fingering high E decreases venting and brings more stability to the note with a faster response.
