Guitar players are really quite simple people when it comes to tone. It either works or it doesn’t. Most guitarists have a setup (either amp or pedal based) that goes from clean to crunch and onto distortion. There are infinite variations of all three but there is one thing you can be assured of, they all rely on EQ.

John Oram is known as ‘the father of British EQ’, so he really knows his stuff when designing a pedal such as The Leveller, a three-band EQ, with each band offering a boost or cut of up to 18dB.

The 12 o’clock position of each knob offers a flat EQ and the effect as you turn the knob to the left or right is remarkable and very musical. The boom knob covers the bottom end and adds a nice warmth and body to your guitar tone.

Honk is aptly named if you turn it up – it tweaks the midrange with a centre frequency of around 500Hz and it is also useful for scooping out the mids. Fizz covers the top end and the high midrange and enhances clarity and bite.

The Leveller offers some EQ options that work exceptionally well with guitar…maybe yours?

This handbuilt Rotosound pedal was built in incredibly small numbers making it a real collectors item. We have one only – brand new!
