Vintage ’64 Reissue of Paul McCartney’s Beatle violin bass from the Hofner H500/1 series.
Hand crafted in Germany, the Hofner H500/1 Vintage 1964 Violin Electric Bass Guitar is a superb instrument.
Not long after a young leather clad Paul McCartney purchased a 500/1 Violin Bass in 1961 to use with The Beatles, Hofner became a household name amongst musicians worldwide. In 1963 Hofner gave a new and improved model to Paul. Other than the white celluloid neck binding, the ’64 reissue has the same specifications as Paul’s ’63 bass. The Hofner Staple humbuckers deliver a classic warm and woody, almost acoustic-style tone.
The elegant white celluloid neck binding distinguishes the V64 from the ’63 model. The top, back and sides also feature Hofner’s trademark 3-ply black/white/black binding.
Built in the time honoured tradition of Hofner’s most celebrated violin basses, the light weight of the fully hollow body will be well appreciated after a hard day’s night. A fitted vintage style Hofner case, certificate of authenticity, factory photos, stickers, control panel instructions and cleaning cloth are included.
In 1956, Walter Hofner had an idea for a violin shaped semi-acoustic bass. Launched at that year’s Frankfurt Music Show, his idea revolutionised popular music and with continuous production from 1956 this bass is one of the few guitars available today that can trace it’s origins back to the very beginning of rock ‘n’ roll.
